The beauty of this Cooper Lighting recessed kit is that you no longer have to guess which housing belongs with which trim–the can and trim come packaged together. This combined packaging greatly simplifies the often confusing process of selecting recessed lighting.
The P401TSW kit combines a white trim, frosted glass lens with non-IC housing. The light is thermally protected and listed for damp locations and designed specifically for use in showers and bathrooms.
Proper installation of the light requires that insulation be kept three inches from the housing. Captive bar hangers which expand to accommodate joist spans of up to 24 inches are included for suspended ceilings or new construction. Light uses 60-watt A19 bulb (not included). The H27x series of housings lets you save money on energy costs without sacrificing lighting quality or appearance. Each of these products is designed for use with compact fluorescent bulbs, which use at least 2/3 the energy of incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer. Each housing in the H27x series includes a thermally protected, 120-volt ballast that provides full light output, flicker- and noise-free operation, and rated lamp life.
These products are easy to install and offer flexibility across a variety of materials and situations. The hanger bars include pre-installed nails (self-tapping screws are also available) in special housings that ensure smooth, straight penetration, whether you’re working with laminated composites, engineered I-joists, open-web joist plates, or even frozen lumber. The automatic leveling flanges allow you to hold the housing securely in place with one hand while driving nails with the other. The housing also includes integral T-bar clips for use with suspended ceiling T-grid systems.
Halo also makes it easy to work in confined spaces. To install in joist spans of less than 12 inches, simply collapse the hanger bars then bend and break them along the score lines–no tools needed. The bars can also be removed and repositioned on the opposite side of the frame if you need to mount the unit at 90 degrees to the original configuration. Wiring is a breeze with Halo’s patented Slide-N-Side wiring system, which allows wiring outside the junction box.
The H271ICAT is rated at 18 watts (compare to the H270ICAT at 13 watts and the H272ICAT at 26 watts). It is rated for direct contact with insulation and air-tight construction prevents heat loss to attic. Available with a variety of trim options (sold separately). UL/cUL listed for damp location, wet location (with selected trims), direct contact with insulation, and feed through. Energy Star qualified.–Josh Dettweiler
