The H5T is a great choice if you’re looking for a vivid yet low-profile lighting solution for installation in non-insulated new construction. The five-inch aperture accommodates the smaller PAR20 and PAR30 halogens and fits a variety of trims, allowing you to customize the look and lighting effect.
Halo’s recessed lighting fixtures are designed for ease of installation and flexibility across a variety of materials and situations. The hanger bars include pre-installed nails (self-tapping screws are also available) in special housings that ensure smooth, straight penetration, whether you’re working with laminated composites, engineered I-joists, open-web joist plates, or even frozen lumber. The automatic leveling flanges allow you to hold the housing securely in place with one hand while driving nails with the other. The housing also includes integral T-bar clips for use with suspended ceiling T-grid systems.
Halo also makes it easy to work in confined spaces. To install in joist spans of less than 12 inches, simply collapse the hanger bars then bend and break them along the score lines–no tools needed. The bars can also be removed and repositioned on the opposite side of the frame if you need to mount the unit at 90 degrees to the original configuration. Wiring is a breeze with Halo’s patented Slide-N-Side wiring system, which allows wiring outside the junction box.
The Halo H5T is specifically designed for use in uninsulated ceilings. However, insulating around these fixtures is fine as long as you keep it at least 3 inches from all sides of the housing.
For safety, the unit includes a thermal protector that deactivates the fixture if it overheats. Available with a variety of trim options (sold separately). UL/cUL listed.

I got two of these for my walk in closet that is about 15′ x 8′ and put a 14 watt florescent bulbs in each one. I was worried that they would not provide enough light but everything looks good and there is a LOT more light them my old single 75 watt traditional bulb.

The beauty of this Cooper Lighting recessed kit is that you no longer have to guess which housing belongs with which trim – the can and trim come packaged together. This combined packaging greatly simplifies the often confusing process of selecting recessed lighting.
The P300TWW kit combines 5-3/4-inch diameter white trim and white baffle with 5-3/8-inch low profile housing. The light is thermally protected and listed for damp locations making it ideal for use in a variety of applications in new construction, remodels, or suspended ceilings. The low profile housing makes this an excellent choice for 2-inch by 6-inch joist construction common in older housing, or for installations with minimal available space. The white baffle helps to reduce glare and control light. A combination of several recessed light kits can be used to brightly illuminate an entire room or a specific area such as a hallway.
Proper installation of the light requires that insulation be kept three inches from the housing. To install with bar hangers, be sure to purchase 24-inch bar hangers P98 (sold separately). Light uses 75-watt R30 or 100-watt R25 bulb (not included). UL regulated for safety.–Bree Norlander
